AG1 Review

For those who live under a rock, AG1 (aka Athletic Greens) is a daily health drink with a 75-ingredient list of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients in each scoop.

Despite the dozens of podcast commercials I listened to promoting AGI (and my beloved respect for Lauren Bossticks’ recs), the person who actually influenced my AG1 purchase was my boyfriend’s mother.

The plethora of vitamins on her counter could conquer almost any ailment, but they aren’t the typical chewy kinds or Nature Made you may be picturing. She informed me that store-bought vitamins are often full of dyes, fillers, additives, and inaccuracy (as the FDA doesn’t regulate their labels).

She has the good stuff.

So, when she told me that, once her vitamins ran out, she was replacing them with AG1, I was intrigued.

To be fair, I knew a lot about the product.

How could you not? Almost every influencer I followed had a brand deal with AG1. And in between those story swipes, you could be served an AG1 ad.

My marketing brain had the brand on my radar, due to their rapid success. To have a vitamin drink that nearly everybody knows about was quite impressive.

When I saw that The Skinny Confidential interviewed Kat Cole, President and COO of Athletic Greens, it piqued my interest. Kat had led iconic brands, like Cinnabon. She invented the mini Cinnabon and pioneered their partnership with Taco Bell. Her Hooters hostess to Vice President of the company pipeline (at 26, may I add) is unheard of.

It is no shock that this woman made AG1 the powerhouse it is today (valued at $1.2B).

In true marketing fashion, the brand hit me in all avenues of the funnel: podcasts, influencer marketing, Meta ads, and even a STARBUCKS partnership. But, do you know what made me purchase? Word of mouth.

To give credit where credit is due, I now offer my review (and no, this is not a paid partnership).

I did a lot of research into greens powders prior to purchasing AG1, and it was the only brand I found that offered such a comprehensive list of vitamins/minerals, pre and probiotics, adaptogens, antioxidants, immune support, superfoods, etc.

There are competitive brands that are made of solely real food ingredients, which is great and could be used as a way to add more greens to your diet, but I was looking for more of a drinkable multivitamin with gut health support.

After drinking AG1 for over a month now, there are a few noticeable differences in my routine.

For one, I don’t need a nap now. Let me tell you all… I used to nap every. single. day. after work. It was almost uncontrollable. My eyes were heavy at the desk around 4:00pm like clockwork. AG1 offers high doses of all eight B vitamins, which your body lacks energy without. Hormonal birth control lowers B vitamin levels, so getting those back into my diet has improved my energy significantly.

Drinking AG1 first thing in the morning on an empty stomach has been a great way to ensure I get water in before coffee, which improves jitters and anxiousness. It also helps digestion and mental clarity to start the day absorbing adaptogens and pre and probiotics.

Not to mention, I feel like a total pilates mom shaking my green drink in my AG1 cup otw to the gym in the AM.

I will also add, that my brother got pneumonia anddddd COVID-19 and this immune system right here did NOT catch it…. could’ve been the AG1 😏

To be 100% real with you, I thought it tasted like sh*t at first. I was drinking a scoop with 8oz of fridge water (for temperature reference), as directed on the packaging. That was NOT enough water for my pallet. It tasted like I was drinking chalk.

It comes with a branded water bottle to drink it in with a large opening at the top. This both makes it easy to put the powder in AND to inhale a large chunk of powder down the hatch. NGL, I gagged a few times.

To avoid chunks, gagging, and green lips, you simply HAVE to drink it out of a cup with a sippy lid and add a lot of ice.

My second caveat is that it is rather expensive. It is $80 for 30 days. I justified the purchase by thinking, If I were to purchase all the vitamins that are in this drink, I would spend a lot more than that. Is that girl math? Whatever, it made for great blog content.
